Roger Walker Travel to remain in Twyford!
Press Release - 1st September 2008
After some time searching for new business premises within the village of Twyford, Roger Walker Travel is staying exactly where it has been for the past 4 years
The company has agreed the purchase of their 400 year old Grade II Listed office, The Old Forge, located on the High Street in Twyford next to the Phoenix Public House. As well as securing the ground floor space that it has occupied for the last few years, the purchase includes two extra rooms.
“The purchase is a welcome relief” comments Roger Walker. “We have been looking for some while for an office to buy and The Old Forge is a building that we have grown to love!. The purchase gives us extra space for our continued expansion and allows us room for more staff to further develop the range of holidays that we offer. We will be renovating the property to enhance its charm and character over the coming months and to further improve our client lounge area.”
Working with Winchester City Council, the company have agreed plans for the renovation which will include exposing the original roof timbers and adding stainless steel rods between the wall plates to to help support the building. A new staircase will rise from the ground floor to access the mezzanine level. The work will start in the next 12 months.
The Old Forge is situated in the Conservation Area of Twyford at the top of Queen Street, one of the original streets in the village. Businesses nearby include the Phoenix Public House, the recently renovated Bugle Public House and the renowned Twyford Post Office and Stores, incorporating the bistro Bean Below.
